KRT17

A gene on chromosome 17q21.2 that encodes a type-I keratin, an intermediate filament protein that provides the structural integrity of epithelial cells, and is expressed in nail bed, hair follicle, sebaceous glands and other epidermal appendages.

Molecular pathology
KRT17 mutations are associated with pachyonychia congenita (Jackson-Lawler type) and steatocystoma multiplex.
