One hundred milliliters from the duplicate water samples was filtered through a 3-[micro]m Isopore membrane filter (Millipore Corp., Darmstadt, Germany) using sterile technique for DNA extraction and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis.
The liposomal preparations were extruded using a 0.2 [micro]m polycarbonate membrane (Isopore membrane filters, Millipore) at 250psi/60[degrees]C to obtain unilamellar liposomes.
Polycarbonate (PC, Tm = 267[degrees]C) membranes of different pore sizes (0.2, 0.6, and 5 [micro]m diameter, Isopore, Merck, Milipore, Cork IRL) and 25 [micro]m thickness are used as templates for shaping the fibers.
Volumetric samples were vacuum-filtered through 0.45 [micro]m Isopore cellulose acetate filters.
The soil samples were then diluted 10-fold, and 100 [micro]L of this suspension was poured into a 25-mm microfiltration system, equipped with a 0.2-[micro]m polycarbonate filter (Isopore membrane filters; Millipore, Bedford, MA), and connected to a vacuum.
For the SEM images, the particles were dried on an etched-track polycarbonate filter (50 nm; Isopore; Whatman) and coated with gold.
Suspensions (0.6 mL total volume) were centrifuged at 10,400 rpm for 5 rain (Clay Adams Triac Centrifuge) and then filtered onto an Isopore 13-mm-diameter, 0.2-[micro]m membrane filter.
Five polycarbonate filters (Isopore 0.8 lam, 47-mm diameter, Millipore Corporation, Bedford, MA) loaded with the WTC3 P[M.sub.2.5] sample, with five lot-matched blank filters, were mounted in liquid-type polyethylene sample cups, placed in a stainless steel sample holder, and analyzed.
Para distribuir as espigas em mesas, foram colocados isopores de poliestireno de 6 cm de espessura, com perfuracoes equidistantes 5 cm umas das outras, na horizontal e na vertical.
