His initial ophthalmologic examination revealed
iris prolapse through the nasal side and corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) of 20/40 in the right eye (Figure 1a).
Iris hooks allow more iris stability but if the hooks are positioned or removed incorrectly this may result in iris prolapse or iridodialysis.
These include an increased risk of posterior capsule rupture, loss of vitreous, iris prolapse, capsulorrhexis tear, iridodialysis and anterior chamber haemorrhage.
[9]: 0, no IFIS (stable normal iris); 1, mild IFIS (noticeable iris billowing without significant miosis or
iris prolapse); 2, moderate IFIS (iris billowing accompanied by
iris prolapse or [less than or equal to]2 mm pupil diameter reduction); 3, severe IFIS (iris billowing accompanied by
iris prolapse and >2 mm pupil diameter reduction).
In the present study, among open globe injuries, corneal tears (47.59%) were commonest, followed by lenticular involvement (42.84%),
iris prolapse (30.9%), corneo-scleral tears (26.1%) and posterior segment involvement (20.27%).
