A general term for an erroneous and/or misleading assertion used to market over-the-counter products intended to improve health or enhance mental or physical performance. Invalid claims of efficacy made for amino acid and mineral supplements and multivitamins include such phrases as anabolic enhancer, energy enhancer, ergonomic aid, fat burner, fat fighter, fat metaboliser, performance booster, strength booster, strength enhancer and others.
