1. An x-ray of the renal pelvises and the urinary tract made with a radiopaque contrast medium that is injected intravenously and excreted by the kidneys.
2. The procedure by which such an x-ray is generated.

Radiography of kidneys, ureters, and bladder following injection of contrast medium into a peripheral vein.

Intravenous pyelogram (IVP)

A procedure where a dye is injected into a vein in the arm. The dye travels through the body and then concentrates in the urine to be excreted. It outlines the kidneys, ureters, and the urinary bladder. An x ray of the pelvic region is then taken and any abnormalities of the urinary tract are revealed.
