The ETT was guided uneventfully introducing an Airtraq optical laryngoscope by mouth for nasal intubation until it was placed in front of the interarytenoid notch. Using the MADgic laryngeal sprayer, and under the vision provided by Airtraq, a final instillation of local anesthetic was administered (2 cc of 2% lidocaine) at the level of the vocal cords and the glottic introitus.
The optimal view of the larynx that could be achieved with each blade was scored according to the Cormack and Lehane (CL) classification, and the percentage of glottic opening (POGO) score (0 to 100%, 100 = full view of glottis from anterior commissure to the interarytenoid notch, 0=even interarytenoid notch is not seen).
