Any IT protocol used in a health information system which addresses the legal requirements and UK Government guidelines concerning information sharing, especially the sharing of person-identifiable information across primary and secondary healthcare, social services and related agencies. Information sharing protocols have rules and procedures which govern the extent to which organisations may disclose information about a person to others, and relate to the security and confidentiality of the information and to data destruction.
