inconvenience payment

inconvenience payment

Additional payments made to a person in the UK, over and above his or her base pay, for the inconvenience of working in a shift system. The money paid may change according to the perceived level of inconvenience—while it incorporates payment for unsocial working hours, it can cover other forms of inconvenience, such as the need to rotate and/or the speed of rotation through shifts. It can be synonymous with unsocial hours premia (premiums) and/or shift premia.
