in vitro packaging
in vitro packagingthe synthesis in vitro of infective PHAGE particles using an extract from phage-infected cells. This extract contains all the necessary components for the formation of the phages and for the packaging of added nucleic acid into the phage particles. It is used to introduce RECOMBINANT PHAGE VECTORS into host cells, via the process of TRANSDUCTION in GENETIC ENGINEERING.
