The term "hypokinetic diseases" describes many of the diseases and conditions associated with inactivity and poor fitness and include: obesity, metabolic syndrome, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, low back pain, type 2 diabetes, some cancers, depression and other bio-behavioral conditions.
Briefly, the EPIMOV Study is a population-based cohort study, which the main purpose is to investigate the associations of physical inactivity and sedentary behaviors with the occurrence of hypokinetic diseases. The Ethics and Research Committee on Human Beings of the Universidade Federal de Sao Paulo (UNIFESP) approved the study (#186.796).
