Haemorrhage into the anterior chamber of the eye. It usually occurs as a result of trauma to the eye, especially in sports, or as a result of intraocular surgery (e.g. trabeculectomy). It is advisable to have the patient admitted to hospital because of the possibility of recurrent haemorrhage and secondary glaucoma. Note: also spelt hyphema.
