(hī'pĕr-prō-lak'ti-nē'mē-ă)Elevated levels of prolactin in the blood; a normal physiologic reaction during lactation, but pathologic otherwise; often due to physical or emotional stress or rapid weight loss, sometimes to pituitary adenoma; amenorrhea is usually present.
