hide and die syndrome

hide and die syndrome

A phenomenon seen in up to 20% of hypothermia-induced deaths that occur on land, in which the decedent’s body is found “hidden” in strange places—e.g., under a bed or bench, on a shelf or behind a wardrobe—presumably because the person had sought out someplace warmer than the environment.
