Mechanism of polyphenolic tannin resin hardening by hexamethylenetetramine: CP-MAS [.sup.13]C NMR.
Preparing the molar concentration of 0.005 M Zn[(N[O.sub.3]).sub.2] and hexamethylenetetramine solution, then ultrasonically processing for 10 min so it is completely dissolved and then mixed.
The substrates were first deposited with a Ti[O.sub.2] compact layer; then they were seeded with ZnO layers from a solution of 0.05 M zinc acetate and 0.05 M hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) by a spin coating technique followed by thermal decomposition at 350[degrees]C for 30 min.
Finally, hexamethylenetetramine [([CH.sub.2]).sub.6][N.sub.4] abbreviated as HMTA or "hexa," a reaction product of 6 mol of formaldehyde and 4 mol of ammonia, is used as an alkaline curing catalyst for C stage novolac molding powders, as well as in rubber formulations compounded with resol type resins.

Here, the ZnO solution was prepared by using 0.02 M zinc nitrate tetrahydrate [(Zn(N[O.sub.3]).sub.2]-6[H.sub.2]O) and hexamethylenetetramine [(C[H.sub.2]).sub.6][N.sub.4] in ethanol and aqua bidest (1:3).

In a similar case, a leading global manufacturer of belts and hoses to the automotive and industrial aftermarket had been strengthening its belts with polyester cord pre-treated with a combination of hexamethoxymelamine or hexamethylenetetramine and phenol-formaldehyde condensation product, where the phenol is usually resorcinol.
These materials included acetic acid, dioxane, hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA or hexa), epichlorohydrin, glyoxal, sodium hydroxide (50% NaOH), phenol (99%), formaldehyde (50% HCHO), chromatographic compounds, etc.
Zinc nitrate hexahydrate (Zn[N.sub.2][O.sub.6] x 6[H.sub.2]O; ZnNt) and hexamethylenetetramine ([C.sub.6][H.sub.12][N.sub.4]; HMTA) in equal molarity were dissolved in 100 ml deionized water.
In combination with a methylene donor such as hexamethylenetetramine (HMT-80/EPR/P) or hexamethoxymethylmelamine (HMMM-50/EPR/S), the resins function as adhesion promoter additives to the rubber compound.
