HSPA8

A gene on chromosome 11q24.1 that encodes a ubiquitous member of the heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) family which acts as a chaperone by binding to nascent polypeptides to facilitate correct folding. HSPA8 also acts as an ATPase in disassembling clathrin-coated vesicles during transport of membrane components through the cell. It also downregulates transcription of CITED and HSC70.
