A term for population-based research into the promotion and maintenance of health, the frequency, burden and causal pathways of ill health, and the effectiveness of interventions designed to reduce or prevent ill health.
This is to be distinguished from “public health research”, which focuses on epidemiology, infections, industrial hygiene, man-made and natural disasters, etc.
