KIF2A

A gene on chromosome 5q12-q13 that encodes a microtubule-associated motor protein required for normal brain development, which may regulate microtubule dynamics during axonal growth. KIF2A is required for normal progression through mitosis for normal congress of chromosomes at the metaphase plate, and is also required for normal spindle dynamics during mitosis. KIF2A promotes spindle turnover and is implicated in formation of bipolar mitotic spindles. It has microtubule depolymerisation activity.
