An enzyme analogous to adenylate (adenylyl) cyclase, but cyclizing guanosine 5'-triphosphate to guanosine 3':5'-cyclic monophosphate and also producing pyrophosphate; activated by nitric oxide.

guanylate cyclase

enzyme catalyzing the synthesis of 3′5′ cyclic-GMP from GTP in photoreceptor cells of the retina in its dark state. cGMP binds to Na+-channels of the retinal cells, causing them to open.
