GEMIN8(redirected from gem-associated protein 8)
GEMIN8A gene on chromosome Xp22.2 that encodes gem-associated protein 8, a member of the survival of motor neuron (SMN) complex. The SMN complex plays a key role in spliceosomal snRNP assembly in the cytoplasm and is required for pre-mRNA splicing in the nucleus. GEMIN8 binds directly to SMN1 and to the GEMIN6-GEMIN7 heterodimer, mediating their interaction.
