In chapter 4, "Problems of Replication and Application', Rao distinguishes between replication on demand and statistical replication and illustrates the latter with examples from REG and ganzfeld work.
It describes the history of the program and its research areas and presents analysis, experiments, white papers, assessments, protocols, overviews, and discussion of the Ganzfeld studies, addressing topics like photon production, remote viewing and evaluation techniques, neuropsychological assessment of participants in psychoenergetic tasks, personality assessment, enhanced human performance investigation, mass screening for psychoenergetic talent using a remote viewing task, the effects of hypnosis on remote viewing quality, and anomalous perception during lucid dreaming.
"Wedgework" uses darkness and light to question the concept of space, while "Ganzfeld," which means "complete field" in German, makes viewers step into the light and experience disorientation, literally.
BACK in 2005, Faye, a 24-year-old Liverpool psychology student at a local university, decided to dabble with the Ganzfeld Effect - a state of altered consciousness in the mind of a person once the outside world is shut off.
The space would combine an anechoic chamber, a sound dampened, black room, with a ganzfeld. (19) German for "total field" and closely tied to gestalt theory, a ganzfeld is an acoustically isolated room that produces a "homogenous perceptual environment" through randomly chosen visual stimuli.
Commissioned by Louis Vuitton and housed on the fourth floor of the retailer's shop at City Center, this is the largest of the artist's famous ganzfeld installations (as pictured below in Oslo, Norway).
Essays detail the contributions of psychiatrist Jule Eisenbud; a research project on the effects of group consciousness on electronic random event generators; dream ESP studies; the importance of theory-driven research and the theories of psychopraxia, mediated instrumental response, and synchronicity; Bayesian and quantum modeling approaches to analyzing evidence of ESP with participants in the Ganzfeld state; the application of consciousness to parapsychology; physiological studies that investigate parapsychology at the unconscious level; the anomalies associated with distant healing; and expanding parapsychology research and knowledge.
For the past four years, Matmos has been conducting parapsychological experiments based off the classic ganzfeld experiments, which use sensory deprivation and telepathic messaging to search for evidence of extrasensory perception, or ESP.
This became known as the Ganzfeld Effect and it comes from the brain inventing sensations to make up for what's missing.
Further testing found that overnight, full-field monocular stimulation with a flickering red 'ganzfeld' failed to nullify the resetting, sleep-induced effect.
