Any of various plants of the family Onagraceae and especially the genus Oenothera of the Americas, having four-petaled usually yellow flowers that open in the evening and whose seeds yield an oil used in herbal medicine.

Herbal medicine
A biennial herb that contains essential fatty acids, including gamma linoleic acid; it is has been widely used for heart disease, hypercholesterolaemia, premenstrual syndrome, endometriosis, breast pain, menopause, eczema, psoriasis, acne, osteoporosis, multiple sclerosis, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, asthma, diabetes, hyperactivity and gastrointestinal disorders.

There are no peer-reviewed studies to support the efficacy of evening primrose.

Headaches, nausea, seizures, skin rashes.
