structured data

An informatics term for data that can be slotted into discrete fields and enumerated or codified. Context may determine whether or not data are unstructured—e.g., a progress note might be standardised and structured in some EHR-S (e.g., Subjective/Objective/ Assessment/Plan) fields, but unstructured in others.

Examples
Patient address; diastolic blood pressure; coded result observation; coded diagnosis; patient risk assessment questionnaire with multiple-choice answers.
