fleas

Small, wingless insects of the order Siphonaptera , which feed on warm-blooded animals, including man. They have powerfully muscular hindlegs and have a remarkable jumping performance. The Oriental rat flea, Xenopsylla cheopis transmits bubonic PLAGUE from rats to humans. Rat fleas also transmit mouse typhus to humans. CHIGOES penetrate the feet and toes of people walking barefoot in certain tropical regions causing pain, swelling and infection. Most fleas are no more than a nuisance.
