first-degree atrioventricular block

Delayed conduction through or from the atrioventricular node, marked on the electrocardiogram by a prolonged P-R interval. Usually no treatment is necessary. Synonym: first-degree heart block

In the study group, the pre-anesthetic electrocardiogram revealed a first-degree atrioventricular block in 3% of the animals, Type I Mobitz second-degree atrioventricular block in 3% of the animals, and sinus pauses in 11% of the animals showing that overall, 17% of the animals could have degenerative alterations in the conduction system as a result of aging.
Other new rhythms identified included ectopic atrial rhythm (in six patients), premature ventricular contractions (in five), sinus block with first-degree atrioventricular block (in four), junctional rhythms (in three), ST-segment depression (in two), and second-degree atrioventricular block (in two).
