the protein-mediated transport of a compound across a biomembrane that is not ion-driven; a saturable transport system.

facilitated transport

any carrier-mediated transport (see CARRIER MOLECULE in a membrane where diffusion is aided by the molecule to enhance the mobility of the diffusing substance, but in which there is no ACTIVE TRANSPORT or energy expenditure by the cell.
