An NHS term of art for the average cost of additional days in hospital for patients who have exceptionally long stays, which is an additional cost per day that only applies to the additional days beyond the trim point (determined by the Department of Health) and beyond the 95th percentile, and does not apply to additional days above the average but below the trim point.
