In line with the outlined strategies, we therefore decided to incorporate acidic characteristic of sulfuric acid with microporosity of activated charcoal, and so using it as an efficient promoter system for N-formylation of amines by ethyl formate.
After synthesis and characterization, potentiality of the prepared H2SO4/activated charcoal system for N-formylation of amines was examined by the reaction of aniline with ethyl formate under different reaction conditions.

The generality of this synthetic protocol was further studied with N-formylation of various aromatic primary amines with ethyl formate at the optimized reaction conditions.

While they failed to find evidence for amino acids, they did find a substance called ethyl formate, the chemical responsible for the flavour of raspberries.
Curiously, ethyl formate has another distinguishing characteristic: it also smells of rum.
For the complete reaction of diethanolamine, ethyl formate
was added step by step.
The results obtained by saturating the Pt (111) surface with pyrene and ethyl formate are shown in Figure 1.
If the aromatic molecule is changed from pyrene to methyl naphthalene, non-symmetric adsorption of ethyl formate is observed (Figure 3), indicating that the direction of the hydrogen bonding can be controlled by functionalization of the aromatic ring.

The new molecules ethyl formate
(C_2 H_5 OCHO) and n-propyl cyanide (C_3 H_7 CN) represent two different classes of molecule - esters and alkyl cyanides - and they are the most complex of their kind yet detected in interstellar space.
