epiphyte

a plant such as some mosses and some orchids, that grows attached to another and uses it solely for purposes of support, doing it no harm, there being no parasitic association.

These fungal species also exists in other agricultural crops either endophytically or epiphytically. The fungi isolated from maize are pathogenic or nonpathogenic to maize crop; it depends on the pathogenicity factors triggered by ecological or exogenous / endogenous physiological changes (Petrini, 1991).
