epidermophytosis

1. a fungal skin infection due to Epidermophyton.
epidermophytosis cru´ris tinea cruris.

epidermophytosis

Skin infection with any of the skin fungi including Epidermophyton species. Athlete's foot and tinea cruris are examples of epidermophytoses. The term literally means ‘outer skin plants’ and is a historic commentary on the fact that fungi were once classified as plants.
