endothelin-1

EDN1

A gene on chromosome 6p24.1 that encodes endothelin 1, a potent vasoconstrictor of the endothelin family, which is produced by vascular endothelial cells.

endothelin-1

A peptide of 21 amino acids produced by the endothelial cells of arteries that has a powerful arterial tightening (vasoconstrictor) function. It also induces MITOSIS in cells. It has a short half-life of 1–2 minutes and its production is inhibited by endothelial-derived relaxing factor and stimulated by ANGIOTENSIN II, vasopressin, and thrombin.

The molecule, Endothelin-1 (ET-1), is shown to inhibit repair of myelin.
Ang II increased fibroblast proliferation and endothelin-1 expression, which were partially inhibited by L-carnitine.
Conversely, alterations in biomarkers such as platelet aggregation, plasma levels of nitric oxide surrogates, endothelin-1, C-reactive protein, and prostaglandin F2alpha, did not reach statistical significance.
In a well done article by Ergul, the author noted that endothelin-1 is a potent modulator of vasoconstriction, trigger of smooth-muscle cell division, cell proliferation, and vascular hypertrophy, which plays an important pathogenic role in the development and progression of pulmonary hypertension.
The researchers assessed changes in lipids, homocysteine, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, endothelin-1, and endothelium-dependent vasodilation and endothelium-independent vasodilation of the brachial artery.

Change from baseline at weeks four, eight and 12 were calculated after eight hours of fasting for assessing plasma glucose, LDL cholesterol and endothelin-1.
ABSTRACT : Endothelin-1 (ET-1) is an important factor in regulation of cardiovascular tone in humans and mammals, but the biological function of ET-1 in the avian vascular system has not been determined.
Extraction processing of endothelin-1 was also carried out using a C-18 reverse phase cartridge (Sep-Pak Cartridges, Waters) before sample measurement.
