For examination of the barrier function to macromolecules in the ES of Tric-/- mice, biotin (molecular weight: 556.59) was infused into the endolymphatic space. In the ES of Tric-/- mice, biotin was confined in the endolymphatic space, and no apparent biotin leakage through the epithelia was found (Figure 4).
The cochlear hair cells are the only disrupted sites resulting from Tric KO as reported previously , despite the fact that the ES and scala media in the cochlea share a single endolymphatic space. These results suggest that the effects of solute leakages in the ES of Tric-/- mice may be very limited and compensatable by active ion transport of the ES, or that the ES epithelia may have other sealing system covering the lack of tricellulin in the tTJs .
In the scala media, the target site where the OC lies, transplanted mIESCs were found in the lateral wall, basilar membrane, spiral limbus, and endolymphatic space (Figure 3).
There were no significant differences in the ratio of transplanted mIESCs expressing myosin VIIa among the regions of the scala media: lateral wall, basilar membrane, spiral limbus, and endolymphatic space (P>0.05; Figure 4).

However, BPPV is now considered a vestibular end-organ disorder caused by the otoliths detaching from the maculae and floating as free particles in the vestibular endolymphatic space
. (3,4,17) Other semicircular canals also may be affected, and more than one canal can be involved simultaneously.
Labyrinthitis ossificans typically involves the perilymphatic space and spares the endolymphatic space
. Inflammatory injury results in fibrosis, which is followed by the formation of new bone.
The organ of Corti and the stria vascularis were necrotic, the perilymphatic and endolymphatic spaces
contained fibrotic material, and there was loss of inner and outer hair cells throughout the cochlea .
During this operation, the increased fluid pressure in the endolymphatic spaces
of the inner ear is released to the subarachnoid space or mastoid cavity.
