Distal axonopathy Neurology A pattern of neuropathy seen in 'toxic' damage to large diameter peripheral sensorimotor nerves, affecting the long axons–eg, lower extremities, before the short–eg, cranial nerves; the condition is a generic reaction to beri-beri, pontocerebellar atrophy, spastic paraplegia, and thallium intoxication.
