AKAP10A gene on chromosome 17p11.1 that encodes a member of the structurally diverse A-kinase anchor protein (AKAP) family, which binds to the regulatory subunits (RI/RII) of protein kinase A (PKA), confining the enzyme to discrete locations within the cell based on different targeting motifs. AKAP10 binds to both RI- and RII-alpha subunits of PKA; it also has an RGS (regulator of G protein-signalling) domain and thus might interact with G-alpha proteins, providing a link between the signalling machinery and the downstream kinase.
