The joint complex on the rear limb of quadrupeds interposed between the femur proximally and the tibia and fibula distally.

a. The tarsal joint of the hind leg of certain quadrupeds, such as horses and dogs, corresponding to the human ankle but bending in the opposite direction.
b. A joint in the leg of a domestic fowl similar to the hock of a quadruped.

one that turns inward from an imaginary vertical line drawn from the tuber ischii to the hindfeet.
walking with the hocks close to the ground. Seen in dogs and cats with muscle weakness, injury to the gastrocnemius tendon, and poor conformation.
hock flexion posture
in a dystocia caused by a breech presentation with the flexed hocks being the first structures presented into the cervix, and the distal extremities of the hindlimbs retained.

point of hock
the summit of the calcaneus.
a more acute angulation of the hock joint than is normal for the species or breed. Instead of the metatarsals being approximately vertical in a standing position, there is a greater slope.
a greater angle between the tibia and metatarsal bones at the hock joint; the opposite of sickle hock. A feature of some dog breeds, e.g. Chow Chows.
