direct exposure probe

direct exposure probeA variant of the direct insertion probe (or direct probe) in which the sample to be analysed by mass spectrometry is coated on a surface that is inserted within the ion source of the spectrometer, and thus exposed directly to the ionisation beam in the source. The DEP can be used to generate mass spectra of otherwise nonvolatile sample molecules.
