The state of meiosis at which the oocyte is arrested during the several years between late fetal life and menarche.

dictyotene /dic·tyo·tene/ (dik´te-o-tēn″) the protracted stage resembling suspended prophase in which the primary oocyte persists from late fetal life until discharged from the ovary at or after puberty.
