designated individualA term of art for the responsible person at a particular facility in the UK, who plays a key role in implementing the Human Tissue Act 2004 and is the designee under whose supervision the licensed activity is authorised to be carried on. The DI has primary (legal) responsibility under Section 18 of the HTA to ensure that:
• Suitable practices are used in undertaking the licensed activity,
• All persons who work under the licence are suitable, and
• The conditions of the licence are complied with.
