dehiscent

(of plant structures) spontaneously bursting open to liberate the enclosed contents. The two main dehiscent structures are ANTHERS releasing pollen grains and certain dry fruits that split open to release seeds, for example those of peas, beans, wallflowers, delphiniums. See also CIRCUMSCISSILE.
