Therapeutic: antiflatulent
Pregnancy Category: UK

Relief of painful symptoms of excess gas in the GI tract that may occur postoperatively or as a consequence of:
  • Air swallowing,
  • Dyspepsia,
  • Peptic ulcer,
  • Diverticulitis.

Causes the coalescence of gas bubbles.
Does not prevent the formation of gas.

Therapeutic effects

Passage of gas through the GI tract by belching or passing flatus.

Absorption: No systemic absorption occurs.
Distribution: Not systemically distributed.
Metabolism and Excretion: Excreted unchanged in the feces.
Half-life: Unknown.

Nursing implications

Nursing assessment

  • Assess patient for abdominal pain, distention, and bowel sounds prior to and periodically throughout course of therapy. Frequency of belching and passage of flatus should also be assessed.

Potential Nursing Diagnoses

Acute pain (Indications)

  • Oral: Administer after meals and at bedtime for best results. Shake liquid preparations well prior to administration. Chewable tablets should be chewed thoroughly before swallowing for faster and more complete results.
    • Drops can be mixed with 30 mL of cool water, infant formula, or other liquid as directed. Shake well before using.

Patient/Family Teaching

  • Explain to patient the importance of diet and exercise in the prevention of gas. Also explain that this medication does not prevent the formation of gas.
  • Advise patient to notify health care professional if symptoms are persistent.

Evaluation/Desired Outcomes

  • Decrease in abdominal distention and discomfort.

To release and vent gases. New building materials often give off gases and odors and the air should be well circulated to remove them.

It is important that more degassing installations will be added to the right places in the coming years.
"Our experiments showed that a plate sonotrode gave a continuous degassing efficiency of at least 50 per cent in the melt flow rising to 75 per cent in batch operation.
It has been shown that the amount of hydrogen can be decreased to levels lower than in the case of Ar degassing, with much less dross formation.
Consumption of aluminium should be sufficient for ensuring removal of excessive oxidation (difference between really measured oxidation and minimal amount of oxygen, necessary for decarburization) in the semi-finished product, and at the same time it should not prevent reaction process of vacuum-oxygen decarburization of the metal in degassing (Figure 2).
Despite the effectiveness of helium as a degassing agent, though, some researchers shy away from using it because it can prove expensive, and the stocking of unwieldy canisters can be a hassle.
Revisions to the rule may result in greater emission reductions through improved incentives to move fluxing operations from melting furnaces by installing more efficient in-line fluxing and degassing units.
David Stevens, BVPI's Sulfur Recovery Technology Manager, said "The MAG degassing system concept was developed to utilize the benefits of degassing in the presence of air without the use of a costly and troublesome compressed air source.
"Vacuum degassing causes hydrogen to diffuse and separate from the liquid
Since 2015 and afterwards, the provinces of Noord-Brabant, Zuid-Holland, Utrecht, Gelderland, Zeeland, Flevoland and Noord-Holland have already introduced a prohibition of sailing degassing on benzene and benzene-containing substances.
Issues with hydrogen control when degassing become exaggerated when a process requires an intermediate level of hydrogen.
The ARE-500 stores five different sets of mixing and degassing conditions (time and speed per mode) in a single batch cycle which consolidates otherwise time consuming formulation into a single step, completing in seconds to minutes what might otherwise take a great deal longer.
