[1] The inferior pole of the patella borders the infrapatellar fat pad superiorly, joint capsule and patellar tendon borders anteriorly, proximal tibia and
deep infrapatellar bursa borders inferiorly and the joint cavity borders posteriorly.
It therefore lies between these structures (anteriorly) and the trochlear surface and medial and lateral condyles of the femur, the deep infrapatellar bursa and the tibia (posteriorly), and so completely fills the potential space between these structures (Figures 1 and 2).
Distally it lies between the patellar ligament and the deep infrapatellar bursa with the tibia behind.
The bilateral suprapatellar bursa (SPB), deep infrapatellar bursa (DIPB), popliteal bursa (PB), and retrocalcaneal bursa (RCB) were imaged and measured for analysis.
The examined lower extremity bursae included the bilateral suprapatellar bursa (SPB), deep infrapatellar bursa (DIPB), popliteal bursa (PB), and retrocalcaneal bursa (RCB).
