SIX1A gene on chromosome 14q23.1 that encodes a homeobox protein similar to the Drosophila “sine oculis” gene product and thought to be involved in limb development.
SIX1 mutations are linked to autosomal dominant deafness type 23 and branchiootic syndrome type 3.
