benzoquinone

1. a substituted benzene ring containing two carbonyl groups, usually in the para (1,4) position; p- benzoquinone is used in manufacturing and in fungicides and is toxic by inhalation and an irritant to skin and mucous membranes.
2. any of a subclass of quinones derived from or containing this structure.
