curarineA poisonous alkaloid obtained from curare and used as a muscle relaxant or paralysant in general anaesthesia. It acts by competing with acetylcholine at the point at which motor nerves stimulate muscle fibres. The form used in anaesthesia is called tubocurarine. See also CURARE.
