a severe, acute mastitis in cows causing much suppuration, mammary abscessation and loss of the affected quarter. See also summer mastitis.
an infectious disease of young foals caused by Corynebacterium (Rhodococcus) equi and characterized by suppurative lesions in many organs but with clinical manifestations of pneumonia. There is dyspnea, cough, grossly abnormal breath sounds and diarrhea in some cases and death in most.
