thiamine pyrophosphate(thi'a-min, -men? pi?ro-fos'fat?)
An enzyme important in carbohydrate metabolism. It is the active form of thiamine. In people suspected of malnutrition, administering thiamine before the infusion of glucose-containing solutions prevents brain damage (Wernicke-Korsakoff's encephalopathy).Synonym: cocarboxylase
