Relates to neurons or nerve fibres in which acetylcholine (ACh) is the neurotransmitter, or have actions similar to those caused by ACh. Cholinergic receptors are of two types: nicotinic receptors, which are situated in striated muscles (e.g. the extraocular muscles) and muscarinic receptors, which are situated in parasympathetically innervated structures (e.g. the iris and ciliary body).
