A hereditary, typically disk-shaped subcapsular cataract (OMIM:613763) located at the back of the lens, which may markedly reduce visual acuity.

Molecular pathology
Defects of CRYAB, which encodes alpha crystallin B, cause cataract (posterior) polar type 2.
