CA.1afb.5B(redirected from carbonic dehydratase 5B)
CA.1afb.5BA gene on chromosome Xp21.1 that encodes a carbonic anhydrase, a zinc metalloenzyme that catalyses the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. Carbonic anhydrases participate in various biological processes, including respiration, calcification, maintaining acid-base balance and bone resorption, as well as producing aqueous humour, cerebrospinal fluid, saliva and gastric acid. Carbonic anhydrase 5B is localised in mitochondria and expressed in multiple tissues, suggesting a wider physiological role than that of CA5A.
