CA.1be.14(redirected from carbonic anhydrase XIV)
CA.1be.14A gene on chromosome 1q21 that encodes a carbonic anhydrase, a zinc metalloenzyme that catalyses the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. Carbonic anhydrases participate in various biological processes, including respiration, calcification, maintaining acid-base balance and bone resorption, as well as producing aqueous humour, cerebrospinal fluid, saliva and gastric acid. The CA14 protein product is likely to be a type-I membrane protein and share sequence similarity with the other transmembrane carbonic anhydrase isoform, CA12, but its likely to have different tissue specificity and have different physiologic roles.
