CACNG8A gene on chromosome 19q13.4 that encodes a gamma subunit of a voltage-dependent calcium channel, which regulates AMPA-selective glutamate receptor (AMPAR) trafficking and gating. It promotes
AMPAR targeting to the cell membrane and synapses, and it modulates their gating properties by slowing their activation, deactivation and desensitisation and by mediating their resensitisation. It is thought to stabilise the channel in an inactivated/closed state.
